Chive Whole Wheat Drop Biscuits

 

Ingredients

 

Makes  12 servings

  • 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 3 tablespoons toasted wheat germ, divided

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives or 1 teaspoon dried chives

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • 3 tablespoons cold margarine

  • 1 cup fat-free (skim) milk

  • 1/2 cup shredded low fat process American cheese


Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Spray baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Combine whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, 2 tablespoons wheat germ, baking powder, chives and sugar in medium bowl.

  3. Cut in margarine with pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk and American cheese; stir until just combined.

  4. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon wheat germ.

  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove immediately from baking sheet. Serve warm.
