Ingredients

Butter, for greasing

thin slices of buttered white bread, cut
into triangles

g/1 1/2 oz/3 tbsp granulated sugar

60 ml/4 tbsp raisins

eggs

ml/1 ptl/2 1/2 cups milk

Grated nutmeg,
for dusting
Method:

Butter a 1.2 liter/2 pt/5 cup ovenproof dish.
Layer the buttered bread, sugar and raisins in the
dish.

Beat together the eggs and milk and strain
into the dish. Dust with nutmeg.

Leave to stand for
30 minutes, if possible, then bake in a preheated
oven at 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4 for about 1
hour until set and golden brown.
