Dessert Recipes - Chocolate Flan Case Recipe

Ingredients

  • 150 g/5 oz/1 1/4 cups plain (all-purpose) flour

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp drinking (sweetened) chocolate powder

  • 50 g/2 oz/1/4 cup hard block margarine, diced

  • 40 g/1 1/2 oz/3 tbsp white vegetable fat (shortening), diced

  • Cold water, to mix


Method:

  1. Sift together the flour and drinking chocolate into a bowl. Add the margarine and vegetable fat and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

  2. Mix with enough cold water to form a firm dough. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface. Roll out and use to line a 20 cm/8 in flan ring set on a baking (cookie) sheet.

  3. Prick the base with a fork and fill with crumpled foil. Bake in a preheated oven at 200C/400F/gas mark 6 for 10 minutes.

  4. Remove the foil and return the flan to the oven for 5 minutes to dry out. Use as required.
