Pies and Tarts Dessert Recipes - Jam Tart Recipe

Ingredients

  • 175 g/6 oz/1 1/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour

  • A pinch of salt

  • 75 g/3 oz/1/3 cup hard block margarine, diced

  • Cold water, to mix

  • 90 ml/6 tbsp jam (conserve)


Method:

  1. Sift the flour and salt in a bowl. Add the margarine and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

  2. Mix with enough cold water to form a firm dough. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface. Roll out and use to line a 20 cm/8 in pie plate.

  3. Trim the edge and decorate with the prongs of a fork. Spread the jam in the centre of the pastry.

  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6 for about 20 minutes until the pastry is golden and the jam is bubbling. Serve warm or cold.
